Chambersburg Turtlehead Rugby Club

We're back....

ruckin' at a pitch near you!

In 1823, this great game originated at Rugby College in England when (as the famous plaque reads) William Webb Ellis, "with a fine disregard for the rules of the game of football (soccer) as played in his time, first took the ball in his arms and ran with it."  The game of rugby was born.  One-hundred and sixty years later, the Chambersburg Turtleheads first took the field.  And while this team never altered history, never changed the course of human events, or was never even noticed in the rugby world outside of the Mid-Atlantic Region, what a wild ride they enjoyed.

For the next fifteen years, this group of men bonded like that of no other sporting organization.  They played hard and physical for the love of the game and for the commitment to each other.  Giving 100% and going 100 mph, they enjoyed the peaks of some very successful seasons, and took their lumps during some rough seasons.  And through it all, they always took time to party and enjoy the social side of the game as well.  It was the best years of their lives.

During 1998, the Turtleheads saw a steady decline in numbers despite having qualified for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in division 3 based on there 1997 conference play results.  Due to a lack of numbers, the team folded that summer.  But we are now back!!! Oraginzationally sound with agressive leadership, the current organization is on its way to long-term success.  The next generation of rugby in South Central Pennsylvania has emerged, but the tradition continues.  Now, a new generation will experience "the best years of their lives."
